American Dura-Homes (”ADH”) utilizes a patented construction system and a proprietary concrete formulation to build homes that are green certified (Green Building Coalition and NAHB), virtually indestructible (hurricane, fire, water and earthquake resistant), cost effective, energy efficient, environmentally compatible, and adaptable to almost any floor plan, finish or elevation.
To date, the Company has invested over $5 million in developing the technology, refining its construction system, and testing it in real-life application in various projects around the world.
American Dura-Homes has roots going back to 1985 when its founder Barclay Burks began experimenting with the development of housing solutions for the 21st Century. The significant tenants of this effort was that these solutions would be sustainable, affordable, available worldwide, green and of the highest structural quality able to withstand the harshest climatic conditions. The vision was to create a solution that would provide the “last legacy home its end use partner would ever need to buy”.
ADH structures are uniquely designed and constructed to exceed the green engineered performance and aesthetically desirable expectations of the future US markets at an affordable price, utilizing a patented construction system.
The uniqueness of the system lies in the creation of a “unibody” style construction methodology. The foundation walls and roof come together to form a single structure. The foundation and exterior walls are made of concrete and steel with the wall cavities containing a proprietary light weight “flowable” concrete.
The forms used to create the wall cavity stay in place and become the interior and exterior walls, ready to finish. The result of the finished wall creates an airtight structure with an R-factor as high as 30. Open cell insulation is utilized in the roof offering R-factors as high as 45 depending upon finishes. All other finishes are as those used in a typical green certified building solution. American Dura-Homes is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia with offices in New York, New Jersey and Tennessee.
American Dura-Homes was founded by Barclay Burks in 2006 (Known as American Resources Enterprises from 1991) with the mission of providing quality housing in the developing world market. The company, through its affiliates, has provided solutions in Africa, India and Jamaica to name a few. The company completed 171 units near Kingston Jamaica, and more than 1600 solutions in India and South Africa having built over 3,000 legacy homes.
Prior to ADH, Barclay served as President and Chief Executive Officer for two internationally based mining and construction materials operations (Williams Bros 1982-1989 and Big River Industries 1989-1996).
At Williams, Barclay managed mining operations in 7 states along the eastern seaboard, and moved product along the eastern and central US. In his capacity at the company, he also managed one of the world’s largest construction materials distribution organizations.
While managing Big River, he managed the world’s largest process aggregates operation. From mining and manufacturing sites in 5 states in the US, Big River supplied products to North America, South America, Asia and Europe operating a series of 20 international terminals.
In his role with these organizations, Barclay was involved as a supplier or consultant to some of the most highlighted projects during those years including the Mall of the Americas, the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the IBM Tower in Atlanta to mention a few. As mentioned earlier, he has provided more than 3000 housing solutions on three continents and holds patents in the many of the technologies utilized in the effective completion of many of these efforts.
